How to take care a baby
Taking care of a baby can feel overwhelming at first, but the basics are simple: feed, keep them clean, help them sleep safely, and give them lots of love and attention. πΆ❤️
πΌ Feeding
- Feed the baby breast milk or infant formula as recommended for their age.
- Newborns usually need frequent feeds.
- Burp the baby after feeding.
- Don’t give water, honey, or solid foods to a young baby unless a healthcare professional says it’s appropriate.
π Hygiene
- Change diapers regularly and clean the diaper area gently.
- Give baths safely and never leave the baby alone in water—even for a moment.
- Wash your hands before handling the baby.
π΄ Safe sleep
- Put the baby on their back for every sleep.
- Use a firm, flat sleep surface with a fitted sheet.
- Keep pillows, blankets, stuffed toys, and other loose items out of the baby’s sleep area.
- Avoid overheating and smoke exposure.
❤️ Comfort and development
- Talk, sing, cuddle, and gently play with the baby.
- Respond when they cry; crying is one of the baby’s main ways of communicating.
- Give them age-appropriate tummy time while they are awake and supervised.
π©Ί Health and safety
- Keep vaccinations and regular checkups up to date.
- Never shake a baby.
- Keep medicines, small objects, hot liquids, and other hazards away from them.
- If a young baby has trouble breathing, turns blue/gray, has a seizure, is unusually difficult to wake, or has a fever, seek urgent medical care.
